Walkabout two
After seeing my pics from Walkabout a few mates thought it would be a good idea to visit the area again and there were several places i had missed first time so John and Tim in the 80 series, Andrew and Ryan in the 100 series and myself in the Patrol ute met on friday afternoon and travelled down to Undercliffe Falls and made camp above the falls.
This fella was watching us set up camp...
While walking up to the top of the falls [the night frogs were out in force]we spotted this spider...
When we reached the Pools we spread out trying to hone in on the frog sounds and i found this one...
Not far away was this one with different patterns on the back...
This one was all full of hot air...
We finally hit the swags after midnight and after a good nights sleep started the long steep climb down the ridge line to the valley floor catching the occasional glimpse of Undercliffe falls through the trees...
we had to scramble over the green moss covered rocks to get to the base of the falls...
looking back past the falls to the top of the hill where we were camped made the climb back up something to dread...
We eventually made it back up and packed our gear then hit the road stopping in at Storm King Dam for a look...
We entered Girraween National Park on a sandy track from the north and pulled up at the Underground Creek for a bit of exploring, near the end of the track i spotted this warm temperate Water Skink...
The Underground Creek runs along the base of this overhang..
If you climb down into the rocks you can catch a glimpse of the underground creek...
The water has carved some great shapes in the rock...
We then walked around to Dr Robert Waterhole but there not much there...
We drove further south and while the others climbed the Pyramid i set off the other way and climbed Castle Rock passing through the large boulders that litter the area...
Some of the balancing rocks are amazing...
I had to walk through a cleft in the rock to gain access to the top section of Castle Rock, i noticed this other walker about to enter on his way back down...
Sometimes you have to straddle some deep crevices..
up near the top you can get a good view of the Pyramids...
Its pretty awesome standing there with nothing in front of you but air...
Some trees do grow in the cracks in the bare rock...
On the way back down i stopped to take in the view...
When i spotted this overhanging rock i tried to get down the bare rock slope to get it above the horizon but started sliding so grabbed this quick pic before stopping the slide and carefully inching my way back up, only needed another metre and i would have got my pic...scarey stuff as theres nothing to stop you and it gets steeper and steeper!!
We then drove to Woollool Woolloolini and camped at the Hut.
John packing up his Swag on Sunday morning...
great place to camp...
while the other packed i grabbed a few quick pics of the Woollool Woolloolni boulders...
When everyone was packed we drove to Timbarra trig and climbed the ladder for a look but low cloud restricted the view...
Next up, we drove down to Basket Swamp Falls at the water jets...
Spotted a couple of Dragonflies above the falls...
I then scrambled down to the base of the falls for a pic...
While driving into Morgans Gully i nearly ran over this Carpet Python. looks like his tail had been chopped off when he was younger...
this is the other end ... got some great close ups from only 200mm away but they came out blurry due to slow shutter speed [and probably camera shake ;)] ...
After lunch we explored the area around the creek...
This pic shows the hand cut channel through the rock...
We then headed back towards Home
We parted when we got to Legume with the others heading back up to the sunshine coast while i headed to Browns Falls...
Is this my best profile?...
I then stopped at Daggs Falls for a pic...
Then took the hike down to the bottom of Queen Mary Falls where the recent floods have damaged the railing and walkway...
And finally before heading home i grabbed a pic from Carrs lookout.
